Traffic restrictions in Florence
The entire area of Florence's historical center is a “limited traffic area” or ZTL. Non-residents or those without special passes cannot enter into or park in this area during the day between the hours of 7:30am and 8:00pm weekday and between 7:30am and 4:00pm on Saturdays.
It is, however, important to remember that Florence is relatively small and it is easy to reach the main sights on foot. There are also taxis and small electrical buses that make moving around easier, particularly at the end of a long day spent outdoors walking around.
Taxis need to be called or picked up in one the areas where you'll notice taxis are stopped. This taxi stands are in most of the main squares in the city. To call a taxi, call 055-4390 or 055-4242.
